The inaugural AAN Family Christmas party will take place in Friday Dec 9th at 6:00pm at Jar Menighets Hus. The venue is located next to Jar Kirke in Bærum (map) and is a short drive from Oslo (10mins). Limited car parking is available and the number 121 bus to Sandvika/Lokeberg stops right out the front. You can also take the t-bane to Ringstabekk (Bekkestua linje) and walk 10 mins to the venue.

This should be a great event for adults and children alike. Entry is free and some traditional Norwegian Christmas foods will be available. Australian meat pies will also be available for sale. Feel free to bring your own food and drink, however we ask that no alcohol be consumed at the venue.

We are arranging a number of kids activities including gingerbread decoration, letters to Santa and there may even be a visit from the big man in red. Some small gifts for the kids have been arranged so make sure that you register your attendance on the form below. This will also help us with our catering. Please also indicate if you are interested in bringing a dessert (e.g. cake, pav or kransekaker) that can be shared with others. The more that do this the more 'hyggelig' the evening will be!

Please help us with our catering and gifts for the kids by completing the short registration form below before Thursday December 8th.

God jul!

2011 AFL Grand Final

posted 26 Sep 2011 00:12 by Shane West

The 2011 AFL Grand Final will be shown at the Dubliner, Oslo (http://www.dubliner.no) on Saturday Oct 1st. The game will commence around 2:30pm with pre-game interviews and entertainment shown prior to this time. Homemade Aussie meat pies will be available for purchase.

If you plan on attending please do not leak or allude to the final result, as many in attendance will not know the outcome of the game. If you do so, you risk the wrath of some very irritated footy followers.

So bring out your team colours and see you there!

Mushies Anyone?

posted 11 Sep 2011 11:46 by Shane West   [ updated 22 Sep 2011 12:47 ]

Ever catch yourself jealously eyeing off Sunday walkers leaving the forest with baskets full of fresh mushrooms? Then join us in Østmarka on October 2nd for the first ever AAN mushroom course and forest walk!

We have organised an expert to talk you through the different types of mushrooms and then to join you on a mushroom picking adventure through the forest. You will stop off along the way to put your new knowledge into practice and we have been told that Østmarka will still be abound with mushies at this time of year, especially chanterelle. The afternoon will be rounded off around a camp fire beside Nøklevann where you will enjoy a meal (BYO) together. The program is set from 1100-1500.

Our expert will provide you with written information in both English and Norwegian which you to use as a reference in the future. Lucky for us he is also a translator and is happy to run the course in English.

Please sign up and pay at the following link by 5pm Tuesday Sept 27:

It is open to members (120kr) and non-members (150kr). There is a discount for families and the kids can pick for free!

2011 AAN Family BBQ

posted 9 Aug 2011 11:29 by Shane West   [ updated 27 Aug 2011 02:51 ]

Due to the weather today and the forecast weather for tomorrow, AAN must unfortuntely cancel the family BBQ that was to be held at Ekebergsletta. We regret that we have to do this, however we will plan on holding another family event later in the year. Most likely a family Xmas party in December.

If you have pre-ordered sausages either Simon White or Shane West will be in contact with you today to arrange pickup or delivery.

AAN has about 15kgs of sausages avalable for sale due to the cancellation of the BBQ. If you would like to purchase any sausages (100kr/kg members, 120kr/kg non-members) please email info@aan.no. First in best dressed.

Many of the favourites from previous years are back on the program this year:

50 kr per plate for members
70 kr per plate for non-members
Children under 13 yrs eat for free and soft drinks will be available free of charge.

- Pre-purchasing of home-made cumberland sausages to be collected on the day (2kg and 5kg batches). The sausages can be pre-ordered and paid for at the following link before 1pm Wednesday Aug 24th - https://www.deltager.no/sausage_drive_2011

100kr/ kg for members
120kr/ kg for non-members

- We aim to have some sports clinics for the kids and the big kids who need to brush up on their skills!

Please help us with our catering for the day by indicating if you will be attending by completing this registration form by Thursday August 25th. We will send an sms to everyone who has registered on the afternoon of the 27th to let you know if the event is going ahead or not - we are hoping the weather will be as kind to us this year as it has in the past but we can never be sure. We are also looking to arrange an alternate venue if the weather is looking wet. AAN will keep you informed on developments.

We look forward to seeing you all for a relaxing day together in the Norwegian sunshine!

From Eidvsold Qld to Griffith University - the history of Norwegian migration to Australia

posted 17 Jun 2011 05:52 by Shane West

Join Fredrik Larsen, Aftenposten journalist and historian, for a journey of Norwegian migration to Australia. Fredrik will take us through several waves of migration from the days of convicts to the most recent group of Norwegians to embark on the journey Down Under - university students. Along the way we will meet the Archer family who are not only responsible for building the polar ship 'Fram', but also for building up a part of Queensland, namely Eidsvold. Their legacy does not end there as they are also credited for founding the northern Qld town of Rockhampton.

Fredrik is writing his masters about the history of Norwegian migration to Australia and his enthusiasm for the topic is infectious. Please come and join us for an evening of tales and reflections on historical and contemporary links between two countries we hold close to our hearts!.

Presentation and discussion will be in English.
